HDR, the 5D Mark II, and my 4 year old Macbook Pro

The 5D Mark II has been in hand for quite a while now. And believe me, it’s gotten used. Abused too.
Every one of the Coyote Buttes and White Pocket trips in 2009 found the 5D Mark II in hand. It performed extremely well. And the images produced made [...]

A few quick Tuesday updates

Wow, been busy here in Prescott.  What’s the latest?

Scott Kelby’s latest blog post is really worth a read if you’re a photographer showing your work online.  Great reminder that you should pick the best of your shots for display, and whittle your portfolio down to the best of the best only.  If you haven’t popped [...]

Topaz vs HDR

This is a quick post.  I’m going to leave readers to ponder the following two images.  They’re both the same scene.  One was done with Topaz, one was done in HDR.
Here’s the thing, you might not be too quick about certainty regarding which is which.  I’ve left them with some real differences.  Fun fact?  I [...]

No coal in my stocking this year – Topaz Detail v1.1

Late this afternoon I received a notice from one of the folks over at Topaz.  So did every other Topaz user out there.  One of those automated e-mail blasts to customers I suppose.  Sure, it would have been cool if I received an early heads up given I’m a proponent of Topaz products.  Maybe some [...]

Stepping away from the Z3100 for a few moments

For the past two weeks it seems like the printer is running from the time I get here until the time I leave.  The reason it feels like that is simple.  It is running the whole time!  Being busy is good.
In addition to printing, photographing, creating canvases for clients, color matching paintings, and doing web [...]

Let’s get technical! Topaz, Photomatix, and Lightroom adjustments

This morning I decided to toy with Topaz Adjust and Detail on the next round of photos.  Yesterday I played with HDR in a big way, why not mess with some other tools to see what we get?  So, that’s what I set about doing this morning, but then I had a thought.  Another round [...]

A “stare and compare” moment by request: Coyote Buttes Paw Hole photo as is versus Topaz Detail and Photomatix HDR

As readers know, I do follow up on requests when I can.  And I’m following up on one right now!
This morning a commentor asked for a three way battle, and I’m providing it.  While sorting images this afternoon I came across one that I really liked.  And I like it just the way it is…..which [...]

A Photoshop contest is coming, and I’m going to enter!

The latest issue of Photoshop User magazine hit the Airstream last week.  And as usual, I tore right into it to see what’s new and exciting.  Know what I found?
Right near the front of the magazine a contest was announced.  The contest genere?  “So you think you can……”  Fortunately it’s not a “So you think [...]

Life without post processing

Interestingly enough, last night and this morning I received multiple e-mails regarding Sunday’s photos.  Questions on processing, things folks didn’t like (some haloing), stuff folks did like (the results with Topaz) and a few other comments to boot.  To my surprise, the post generated more than 10 direct e-mail questions.  That’s a lot of questions [...]

The 2009 Worldwide Photo Walk Winners

Well, yesterday Scott Kelby made an announcement.  The winners have been selected.
I’m sorry to say, Prescott’s entry did not place.  Remember, 900+ photos, 11 selections.  That’s some pretty stiff competition!
Congrats to all the winners!  And congrats to all who participated this year.  It was a fun one, and I’ll look forward to next year’s walk!
