iWork

Yes, I do work.  But I’m talking about Apple’s iWork 08, not whether or not I’m productive.

For several years I’ve carried along an old version of Microsoft Office for Macintosh.  It’s bounced from machine to machine.  And mostly I’ve been happy with the program.

Recently I decided to purchase the family pack of Apple’s iWork to replace my Office.  You can install it on up to 5 machines, and it only ran $99.99.  Not bad!

The new version of iWork includes Pages (Word equivalent), Numbers (Excel), and Keynote (Power Point).  The nice thing with each of these programs is the fact you can import the Microsoft Office equivalents, and you can export versions compatible with Office.  So far I’ve tested files I created with iWork on XP and Vista systems and I’ve had no problems whatsoever.  Very nice!

If you’re a Mac user you might want to check out iWork.  All of my old Office documents work on it, and the cost for 5 licenses is hard to beat.  So far it’s been installed on my Macbook Pro and my IBook (both here at the Airstream).  I’ll be installing it on the IMac and G5 at the gallery next week.

  1. I’m just a sucker for OpenOffice. It’s free, and is compatible with all of the standard Microsoft office formats as well. 🙂

Microsoft’s pricing structure for office is a total joke! $150 for the same suite…

  2. I was getting ready to reluctantly upgrade my Office 2004 to 2008. Would you recommend the new iWork over the Office ’08?

Also – nice how there is a Microsoft Office ad in the banner…
