Hiking through the Granite Dells

The Highland Games This Weekend

Point of Rocks is filling up for this weekend’s big event.  The Highland Games are going on this weekend in Prescott at Watson Lake Park.  Of course, like many of the big events that go on in May here, the weather is going to be a big question once more.  Snow at elevation?  Dropping temperatures?  Yup.

This morning I took a walk around Watson Lake.  I’m trying to get a few big hikes in each week now in order to drop a few pounds (15 to be exact).  After the hikes I come back and chain myself to my desk (my super awesome desk) and work.

Today after finishing my hike I was chilled to the bone.  It’s beautiful and sunny out, but there’s a chill in the air.  Getting into shaded spots you really notice that it’s cooling off again.  Like I said before, just in time for this weekend’s fun at Watson.

The G11 Experiment Continues!

I’ve stuck to my guns over this week, and the big Canons are packed away in my Think Tank.  The G11 has been my main tool for shooting this week.  With a few bad weather days I didn’t do any outdoor shooting, but every opportunity I get I’m toying with the G11 more.

Overall it works well in RAW mode, now that I’ve figured it out a little more.  I’m still unhappy with 2 things.  I’d like a few more focus points, and I wish it was better handheld.  The shutter lag forces me to have the tripod at all times, or fail at the image.

This image isn’t as sharp as it could be. You notice the blur on the license plate? Yeah, shot it handheld

In the end, I think this little experiment is good for me. One more tool in the inventory never hurts.  Of course, I’m trying to figure out a lighter tripod for the G11, especially if I’m out on the bike or taking a hike.
