Photographing Arizona Podcast Episode 8: Finding Yellow Rock

Richard Charpentier Notes from Rich, PAZ Podcast 1 Comment

Well, I’m back from my trip to the Utah / Arizona border a day early.  I didn’t get to shoot everywhere I wanted to, but that’s okay.  I’ll be returning in a few short weeks.

One of the goals of this trip was to check out the roads around Coyote Buttes and Yellow Rock.  Off road driving, and some interesting terrain to be sure.  I can say I accomplished the goal of getting some more information before the September 25-28th photo trip, so my friends coming along won’t be bored with me trying to figure out where we are.  That’s all good there.

Unfortunately I spent the better part of one day trying to find the Yellow Rock trail head near Hackberry Canyon.  This video podcast shows you Hackberry Canyon and some scenes from Cottonwood Canyon Road.  It does not show you Yellow Rock, just excerpts from my attempt to find it.  Believe me, I know where it is, saw it in the distance, etc.  Go figure, I was at one point only a few hundred feet from the trail head.

I now know where it is, and in several weeks I’ll take you along for the trip to Yellow Rock, Coyote Buttes South (Paw Hole and maybe more), and maybe a few other sites.  We’ll see what gets accomplished.

In the meantime, hope you enjoy this podcast.  In all honesty, not every photo trip goes the way you want it to, and sometimes you don’t even get to shoot the location you’d hoped to.  Still, I did see some amazing stuff!

  1. Well, it’s a heavy marine-layer morning in San Diego but you brightened my day with with this beautiful podcast of Hackberry Canyon accompanied by the serene new age music of Rob Costlow. Sounds like Track #1 from his album “Reconstruction”, which I am listening to right now as I write this (available to listen to or download from Magnatune.com).

I really enjoyed your podcast as a wonderfully peaceful way to start my day, instead of the usual stress related news and computer trouble-shooting sites that I too often visit.

Thank you for sharing so much… and I hope you feel better real soon. 🙂
