Portrait sessions outside the “norm”

I’ve got an hour before I push out to finally visit a location that has captured my attention for years, but I just haven’t visited yet.  Very exciting!

Since I’ve got a little time on my hands before I head out I thought I’d talk about what we did this weekend.  One of my most fun portrait session ever in one of the most breath taking places that I have seen.

In this age of digital photography we’ve got a lot more options to create amazing images for clients.  Compositing, Photoshop enhancements, portable studio lighting, and more.  So why is it that when people think about their own portrait session, or the family portrait, they think of your standard studio session.

Don’t get me wrong.  There’s a place for shooting in a studio.  And I do that type of work too.  But there is also a place for amazing locations and a little more creativity to capture clients and their personalities.  Amazing locations, favorite stomping grounds, sports you’re involved in…..they’re all fair game with the right photographer!

With my Airstream in tow I think I have a unique advantage over other photographers.  My lab can follow with me.  Amazing locations are just a road trip away.  And for the right clients anything is possible with some creativity and the clients’ own inspiration!

So, if you’re like me and think your next portrait session should go beyond the backdrop with swirls of black on a red piece of cloth, get thinking!  You’ve got an image of yourself in your mind.  And there’s a good possibility that I can help you make that image a reality.  Professional models aren’t the only people who can be photographed at epic locations you know………

Several days ago I popped up some of these photos on the blog.  These images are the final versions after minor enhancements in Lightroom and Photoshop.
