Taking a Zero day in Damascus

Wow, I haven’t written those words (the title) since 2001.  Back in 2001 I took many zero mile days in Damascus!  🙂

Today the Airstream sits idle.  The plan for the day was to go up to the Grayson Highlands, say hi to the wild ponies, and take a hike.  Of course, the weather always has to do something odd.  Looks like thunder storms and rain for the day.  I guess yesterday was our good weather in Damascus day!

Hikers Inn is new to me, but not to Damascus. Josh and Leigh told me the folks that run this place are great!

It’s interesting to be back in this town visiting.  I’m not in the shape I was when I hiked here from Georgia, but I can still walk around at least!  Last night we did a good bit of walking.  Looking around the town to see what’s new, the same, or gone.  So much is as it was.  There are new bicycle shuttle services, that’s one noticeable addition.  A few new hostels too.

Some of the houses here are pretty unique. I'd love to see inside this one!

We walked down to the park where the Virginia Creeper Trail runs through and took a few photos.  Nice to walk through town again.  And as we walked we came across several cyclists still out enjoying the trail.  For our trip back to the Airstream we followed the Creeper Trail, just to mix up what we were seeing.

Today promises to be pretty quiet.  With the weather not cooperating it looks like a day inside the Airstream.  That’s okay, I need a day off from driving.
