Nostalgia

Last night when I got home from work I started tearing through one of my Rubbermaid containers looking for documents.  Specifically I was looking for the title to my Nissan Titan.  See, the Titan is sick right now.  The warning lights lit up the dashboard like a Christmas tree on the ride home.  Ugh.

So, I thought it would be a good idea to find my title in case the time comes where I have to replace the Titan.  Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.  After spending the morning trying to get help from 3 different Nissan dealers I eventually had to get a rental car.  The Titan will get looked at next week.  Not a single dealership would even plug the truck in for a few minutes to get the error codes!  There’s customer service (boy do I miss the Nissan guys in Prescott).

Enough about the Titan though.  That’s not what I’m posting about today……

See, while tearing through my Rubbermaid I came across so much nostalgia.  One item in particular is a big win.  A Case Logic DVD carrier filled with backups of all my old podcasts when I was on the road in 06 – 07.  I knew I’d made backups, but I could never find them.

In 2008 “Gadget’s Airstream Chronicles,” was taken down by hackers.  The blog, the photos, the podcasts…..  All nuked.  That’s why the new site that you’re reading now was created.

The original site documented my travels across America while I was trying to make sense of a rare auto immune disorder (which was a total mis-diagnosis), and an unwanted divorce.  It was a tough time for me, but rather than curl up in a ball and give up I went and did something.  Sometimes the travel was hard as I was living with a severe long term infection.  Some days were good and I could look past how I felt.  And every day I blogged.  It was my therapy through the major changes in my life.

In addition to blogging I started creating podcasts from the road.  A Canon Digital Elph was used.  No HD video on that in 2006.  But small video that worked well enough.  A “dash cam” setup was rigged up, and I created over 40 video episodes in total.  In 2008 I thought all that work was lost……until last night when I found my case of backups (I knew I made them, just forgot where I put them).

Before “Go Pro” was ever on the market, I was doing video from the road.  Innovator I say!  Always been ahead of the tech curve.

Over the next few weeks, when time permits, I’m going to start sharing some of the Podcasts form 06-07.  And today I’ve got the first of many to share.

Today we’re jumping ahead.  Episode 18A, crossing Idaho Route 12.  Just riding along with me and listening to some toons.

  1. Sorry, Rich, that your Titan is sick… but I’m thrilled that you found your Podcasts from 06-07!

We have fond memories of riding in your Titan out to see the desert wildflowers and pictographs, while listening to cool music, such as “Dream Kitchen” by Frazier Chorus.

And although Frazier Chorus sings, “I didn’t think it would come to this…”, I’m sure there’s a rainbow down the road… and thanks for the ride!
