Compliments are always nice

This weekend was the busiest I’ve seen in a long time.  Ian called me back to the gallery yesterday while I was doing lunch because he was swamped.  And he literally was.  How often do you get a line to check out at an art gallery?  I’ve never seen that before.  But there it was, and it happened several times yesterday.

That’s a compliment right there.  People enjoy what we display here, and they enjoy all of the artists.  Pottery, prints, original paintings…..it has run the gamut this weekend!

Friday night’s Artwalk was also full of compliments.  So many folks who passed through here made it a point to tell Ian and I what a great collection we have here.  That nod goes to Ian in total.  I’m still new at this, but he’s been doing it for quite a while.  And the artists he’s selected for the gallery really do tie together very well.  Heck, I like coming in here each day and I don’t tire of seeing the amazing bronzes, the glass work, the paintings, and the rest……

In addition to all the nice things said about the gallery I also heard many nice things about my photography and the print work I do here.  I need to get better at taking a compliment when it comes to my photography.  When I look out at each of my pieces I seem to always ask myself how I could do it better, what is it lacking, etc.  Hearing so many nice things this weekend I got a little embarassed at times and tongue tied on a few occasions.  🙂  It happens.

The biggest compliment of course is when somebody likes your work so much that they have to make it their own.  Over the past week I’ve had several custom requests for 32×48″ canvas pieces.  Currently I’m sitting in the gallery doing a new print of my Grand Canyon Monsoon.  It’s being set up for a framer’s wrap.  Once completed Ian will be framing it up in a pretty slick custom frame for a family from Phoenix.  Wow, that’s a big print!  To the customers, thanks for liking it so much.  It is a favorite of mine as well.

Personally, I know I’ll keep wanting to do more with the images I make.  If I’m ever satisfied I’ll let you know, but for the moment I’m sure I can present the places I visit in better ways and improvements will keep coming.  With the friends I have here I keep looking to get better at what I do, and I appreciate how they motivate me.  Thanks all!  And thanks to everyone who paid the Ian Russell Gallery so many compliments this weekend.  We really do appreciate it more than you know!

Thanks Bert! I’m always flattered when you enjoy my work. Coming from a photographer of your caliber it sure means a lot. Still, going to keep working to improve. Maybe someday I’ll be as well known as you! 🙂
