Hanging out at the Hiker Hostel

Today we spent a good bit of time at the “Hiker Hostel.”  Located in Dahlonega Georgia, this is one of the most unique places you could pick to stay!

Over a decade ago I remember talking to the owners, Leigh & Josh, about their idea to create a hostel at the start of the Appalachian Trail to help Thru-Hikers start off on the right foot!  They had a vision, and they really brought it to life.  Hiker Hostel goes beyond helping out Thru-Hikers for a few months out of the year.  They’re available to anyone visiting the area.  From bunk rooms to private rooms, they offer a lot to anyone visiting the area.  Cyclists, eco-tourists, section hikers, and plain old visitors to the area are all welcome to stay!

This week while we’re working with them on updating their web presence they have an outdoor medical seminar going on at the hostel.  A sizable group of folks spend time in the conference room, and then sometimes the driveway learning how to help people injured in the wilderness.  It’s pretty cool.

So far we haven’t had the best weather for shooting around the hostel, but that should change soon.  And when it does, watch out.  The area is beautiful even if it’s been wet and humid for days.  And I can’t wait to see a little sun pop through.
