Working from portable spaces? Yup, it’s not just me

A friend passed along an article the other day that got my attention.  It’s about a guy who lives full time out of an Airstream, and also uses a small portable trailer on his job sites.  You can read the article by clicking here.

I’ve always known that I’m not “alone” when it comes to full timing, but it is always nice when you see what other people are doing with small spaces.  In my case, the Airstream isn’t just home.  It’s also my “on location” lab.  Last summer’s trip to the North Rim?  Yeah, the Airstream was there.  And if there was a way to use it when doing my Vermillion Cliffs trips I would.  Too bad it’s not an “off road” Airstream!  🙂

Truth be told, more than half of my work on my photography occurs at the Airstream “after hours.”  Normally something is always up in the gallery with folks walking through, so to really get into my work it has to be at home.  Or really, the home office!  And yes, a 25 foot Airstream can function as a home office for a single guy!

Isn’t it nice to know you’re not the only one?  😉  I think so.

  1. Perhaps someday you could get a rugged, off-road teardrop(TD) or tiny travel trailer (TTT) for your photo jaunts. I hope that the TTT I’m building now will be able to handle rough roads, if not really cross country trekking.

If you are interested in watching the build or curious about what other folks are doing with these small living pods, have a look at http://www.mikenchell.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40459&highlight=

  2. Rich, how about his mobile office! That would be a new use for your storage trailer some day.

Also I noticed a mac on his office desk.
