Fun with the IPod Touch

January 1st, 2009 I pulled the Airstream from Prescott, AZ. to Bisbee, AZ.  A fun little trip which allowed me to explore parts of Arizona that I had not yet seen.  It was a good trip!

On the way to Bisbee I grabbed my IPod Touch out of the Airstream and brought it up into the truck.  I already had one of my older IPods in the truck with me, but I wanted to try the Touch out with my FM transmitter.  It worked just as well as my Classic IPods.

Here’s the fun part……

For those of you who have followed my blogs for a while you know I have a Verizon Air Card, and that it’s my primary form of Internet connection while on the road.  With the Air Card I also have a Kyocera WiFi router that works with the Air Card.  Put them together and the Airstream suddenly becomes a rolling WiFi hotspot.

Well, when I took my little “rest stop” in Benson, AZ. I also hooked up the Kyocera.  As I hopped into the truck the Touch started downloading all of my e-mail.  The Touch was now online and running well.  With the rolling hotspot right behind me I was online for the rest of the trip!

Sure, you could just do this with the IPhone and not need the Air Card.  I haven’t jumped to an IPhone yet since I’m not happy with AT&T’s coverage here in AZ.  Not spending the money on it if I can’t even get 3G service where I live……  So, I have the Touch instead.  And it’s a great little device, especially when you’ve already got your own rolling WiFi hotspot!

  1. Happy New Year Rich. Hope all is well. Would love to come out there sometime and play some Hang out in the desert w/ you. Seems the perfect place for such meditations.

Tombo, I think you’ve coined a new catch phrase…. “Round-about geekiness.” That totally rocks!!!

Dan, great to see you here. Let me know when you’re flying out! 🙂
