The Dells A La Snow

A winter wonderland this morning?  Yup.

Now, back in New Hampshire we never got all wound up about snow.  We lived with it for so many months every year.  But here in Arizona?

Yup, snow is something to get excited about, depressed about, causes folks to drive like maniacs, and makes me late getting into work.  They really don’t know how to plow here.  And in Flagstaff?  Forget it.  The know even less about plowing, yet they get pounded by snow storms every year.

Well, this morning I wandered the Dells for a bit freezing my $#%@ off.  Glad I still have my Mountain Hardware puffy jacket.  Wouldn’t have stayed out for an hour and a half otherwise.  Oh, and tromping through the Dells right now?  I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t used to walking on ice covered granite.  You will break something, I promise!

I’ve got a lot more photos, but little time.  Water is frozen here this morning, and a shower is in order.  So I’ve got to take a little trip down to the office to get a shower this morning.  Brrrrr, this is going to be fun.

Oh, and I’ve used 3 different editing methods on these photos.  HDR Efex Pro, Lightroom, and Photomatix.  Can you figure out which photo was edited with what software?  Oh, and I know, snow is not purple or blue.  It’s very hard to get that white balance right on with shadows and hotspots combined with snow.  I need to spend a little more time perfecting my snow shooting!  🙂

  1. I’m not familiar with how lightroom processes shots, so I know I’ll get these wrong… But, I think the top two were Photomatix and one of the bottom ones was HDR Efex. Probably the very bottom one. Anyway, that doesn’t really matter. They are all fine shots and I think you got the snow color quite right. Sorry about the freeze out there. Didn’t know Prescott was capable of those temps! Stay warm!

Ah Evan…the first two are HDR Efex Pro. #3 is Lightroom. And number 4 is Photomatix. 🙂 Tricky tricky stuff here. 🙂

It is way too cold. But then again, I do live a mile high.

  3. Well go figure. Just goes to show that you can process very well! I’m enjoying HDR Efex, it seems less noisy in the final product compared to Photomatix. Keep up the good waork and I look forward to more of your stuff!
